Data drives good policy. 

We’re not always all that keen to give our data away willy-nilly, but there are circumstances where that information is like gold for those conducting research into specific topics or industries.

Good decisions depend on good data.

We are severely lacking tangible local data relating to Cannabis, Cannabis users, and the Cannabis Industry as a whole. As we work on our Police Reform Project, we have found that the only reliable and usable local data available was the information that we have logged ourselves over the years through our Emergency Arrest Helpline.

This is why we are so excited to have not one, but two surveys that we encourage everyone to complete. The research these surveys cover could prove invaluable as we continue pushing for fair, evidence-based, human rights-based policies and regulations.

The first is the State of the Leaf 2026 survey, hosted by DaggaBay.

This survey is exploratory, reflecting community hopes and ongoing debates rather than established legal rights. It will remain open throughout 2026, with responses being collated at the end of December. The full report will be shared once the analysis has been completed.

The second is a market research survey being conducted by ClearPath Justice, focusing on Cannabis expungements in South Africa.

Its aim is to better understand the awareness of, barriers to, and reintegration needs of individuals affected by Cannabis convictions, particularly in light of the Cannabis for Private Purposes Act, 2024.
